All Things Jamesons

Listed here are some interesting Jameson things and places, associated, as near as we can tell, with our Jameson Family.

• Jameson House - A residents hall (Dorm) at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, opened in 1957. Named after John Franklin Jameson (1859-1937), who was a professor there from 1888-1901. Mr Jameson was also a Professor at Johns Hopkins University and head of the History Department at the University of Chicago. In addition, he was director (1905-28) of the department of historical research of the Carnegie Institution, Washington, D.C., and from 1928 to his death, he was chief of the division of manuscripts in the Library of Congress. Jameson House is part of Keeney Quadrangle and provides for about one hundred and twenty students.


• Other University Buildings - Jameson House at Rhodes University, England. Jameson Hall at Cornell University, Ithica, NY. Jameson Hall at Douglas College, Rutgers University, NJ. Jameson Hall in Cape Town, South Africa.


• Alexander Jameson House Bed & Breakfast Inn - A Bed and Breakfast in a historic Victorian home once owned by Alexander Dickey Jameson, on Illinois Street in Golden, Colorado. Mr. Jameson was a local pioneer and judge during the gold rush.


• Jameson Lake - In Los Padres National Forest, Santa Barbara County, California, was created on property once owned by John and Janet (Strong) Jameson family, as part of a 1930's water project, benefiting the Montecito area of Santa Barbara. The reservoir was developed by damming the Santa Ynez River.


• Jameson Lane (North and South) - A pair of streets that straddle California Highway 1/101 throughout Montecito, in Santa Barbara County, California. They are named after Janet (Strong) Jameson, in commemoration for all for all the effort she poured into her various causes and good works in this community, where she lived, and in the rest of the Santa Barbara area.


• Jameson Avenue - Antrim, New Hampshire, is a residential street in the heart of that town, and undoubtedly named after one of the several Jameson families who lived there, starting in the latter 1700's.


• J. Franklin Jameson Fellowship - A fellowship offered to PhD candidates in American History. Awarded annually in honor of J. Franklin Jameson, by the US Library of Congress and the American Historical Society.


• Nancy Ordway Jameson Scholarship - Established to honor Nancy (Ordway) Jameson the former director of the Oldest House Museum who spent more than 22 years working as a vital member of the Old Island Restoration Foundation.  Each year the scholarship is awarded to a Key West High School graduating senior who shows high academic achievement and intention to pursue further education in the areas of architecture, history, maritime comcerns or museum work.


• James W. Jameson Scholarship - Princeton University scholarship established in 1960 by James W. Jameson, Class of 1901.


• Hugh Jameson History Endowment - Northern Illinois University, Decalb, Illinois. Award for the best graduate research paper submitted to the Department's Honors and Prizes Committee in memory of NIU Professor Hugh Jameson.


• Owen Jameson Endowment - Thacher School, Ojai, California. Scholarship Endowment by alumnus Owen Jameson to this coeducational boarding high school (grades 9-12).
